“House Piers. Unfortunately not so elven as I would like. My grandmother was where the dalliance began into human blood and the line of House Piers was briefly ended with the death of her parents, leaving no legitimate heirs. I have recovered my family’s estate and holdings, along with adding some improvements of my own, such as the late House Dalman’s vineyards and orchards.”

Biography[]

Early Years (968 AE - 986 AE)[]

Darcy Piers was born in 968AE, in Everglow City to parents Jon Piers and Emmeline from the former House Piers. Darcy grew up in the Bronze Way, idolizing his father Jon. Jon was a half-elf born to a noble elf lady and a low-income human dockworker/bard. Darcy would accompany his father to work as a shipping handler the days he wasn't expected at school.

He never really got to know his older brother Elsik as a child, as the older boy started off as a cabin boy as soon as he was able. The odd times Elsik would come home, there would be massive rows with their parents and usually ended with Elsik slamming the door on his way back out to sea.

Darcy's parents funneled all their hard-earned spare gold into getting Darcy an education. Emmeline, a mixed elf, was able to teach him some magic alongside his early reading, writing, and mathematics. By the time Darcy was 12, he was able to summon a few spells, showing great potential. He began learning how to fight at this age too, leading to his later proficiency with blades.

Studying Magic and Family (987 AE - 1004 AE)[]

The Everglow University accepted him in 987AE at the age of 19. Alongside his studies, he began working as a book-keeper for a fanciful clothing boutique down the road from the university.

The last contact Darcy had with his extended family was at Elsik and Jacinta's wedding in 993AE, where he met Darius. Jon and Emmeline also attended.

Darcy Piers was 26 years old when his father Jon died in 994AE, via drowning at the docks although he was an auspiciously good swimmer. Darcy was left to look after his mother Emmeline. His brother Elsik did not attend the funeral despite being in Everglow at the time for business.

By the age of 30, Darcy had quite the resume for himself. At this point he was doing book-keeping for a number of businesses while continuing his studies in the practices of magic. His favored spell-types were hydromancy, geomancy, and most of all, aerothurgy. He also had some small skill with terramancy.

Darcy did not attend the funeral of his brother Elsik, sister-in-law Jacinta and niece Angelique in 1003AE when a sickness spread through Briochi, Westgate, and Caybourne - he was never informed of the deaths. A few months later, in 1004AE when Darcy was 36, his mother admitted something terrible to him. She told Darcy of the horrors Jon had inflicted upon Elsik in his early years, and how she had simply stood by and let them happen. She admitted she knew Elsik had killed Jon, that the drowning had not been accidental. Darcy left the house to walk and process the conversation, but upon his return the Bronze Way house was burned to the ground with his mother's corpse inside. Investigators said the evidence pointed to Emmeline setting the fire.

Rebuilding House Piers (1004 AE - 1014 AE)[]

Darcy started boarding at the University, dedicating his time to the practice of magic whenever he wasn't earning book-keeping money. He decided he was going to turn around the name of his broken family and rebuild it. One day, he would have heirs and they would not live the way he had. Nor would they hear horror stories of their own parents, or deal with their murders or suicides.

By 1009AE, he had enough gold to buy land outside the city - he took over several orchards. In 1012 he had a vast sum saved up and bought back the house of his ancestors in Everglow City's Golden Mile - the Piers Estate. With land and the estate, and records from the University of his lineage, he was able to claim the title of Lord Piers. In the years since, his estate grew as he absorbed smaller areas of land around his orchards, turning them into vineyards and farmlands. Although he couldn't rival the older, more established Houses of Everglow City, he was certainly moving up in the world - and the economy.

In the beginning of 1014 AE, he was age 46 and resided at the Piers Estate with only servants and guards to keep him company. There is rumor he is seeking a wife of elven blood. Darcy believed the world is heading towards the races of man and elf becoming irreversibly entangled. He wanted to get a head start by creating a bloodline that carried the best traits of both.

The Rich Uncle (1014 AE - 1016 AE)[]

Darius Black came to Darcy in hopes he, as the highest-ranking member of the Piers family, could overturn the arranged marriage between Drake and Serenity. However, Darcy was intrigued by the proposed union as it would mean combining the blood of the Piers family with that of the powerful drow. Darcy told Darius that he would deliberate on the matter, and give him an answer soon.

When it appeared Darcy was going to agree to the match, Darius set up a plan to kidnap Serenity for her own 'safety'.

A Power to be Reckoned With (1016 AE - 1086 AE)[]

  • In 1016, 19th of Fool's Moon, Darcy married Mayfia of Shatterlight Coven.
  • In 1026, 23rd of Lady's Moon, Darcy and Mayfia produced their son Ewann Piers.
  • In 1035, Lyron Piers (Darcy's only legitimate nephew) married his husband Aegis Mabusa. (Darcy felt this was selfish of him not to just take Aegis as a lover and find a woman to produce heirs with and continue strengthening the magical bloodline of Piers.)
  • In 1052, 17th of Drake's Moon, Mayfia Piers died in the last battle of the Pirate War.
  • In 1058, 10th of Hunter's Moon, Ewann Piers married Amara Holdenhome. (This was against Darcy's wishes. He felt despite Richard Holdenhome's druidic abilities, there wasn't enough proof of magical ability in his children.)
  • In 1060, 15th of Herald's Moon, Ewann Piers and Amara produced their son Armand Piers. (Armand began training him in magic ASAP)
  • In 1066, 12th of New Moon, Ewann and Amara produced their daughter Lyrissa Piers. (Armand began training her in magic ASAP)
  • In 1070, 19th of Drake's Moon, Ewann Piers died in the Brecilidian Rebellion.
  • In 1075, The Monarch died and Metheryl Arcaena resigned from her position as Court Sorcerer as Gordon Blackthorne was coronated. Darcy became Court Sorcerer. Shortly after, Amara Piers died to the Red Death on 18th of Lady's Moon. (Armand was 15, Lyrissa 9, and Darcy was terrified of Armand catching the gay or his family dying out, so pushed them towards continuing the line as soon as legally possible. Armand fought him at every step.)
  • In 1086, 5th of Soldier's Moon, Darcy Piers unexpectedly died in his sleep to natural causes. He was 118 and buried in his family crypt with his phylactery.

Mayfia Piers (Wife) - Darcy and Mayfia met and fought alongside each other at the Final Battle of 1015. In 1016, 19th of Fool's Moon, Darcy married Mayfia of Shatterlight Coven. A powerful spell-caster but with a timid and obedient personality, Mayfia fit well into the role of wife and mother. She was distressed at not being able to conceive a child until ten years into the marriage. She fought alongside her husband during the Pirate War only to die in the last battle on the 17th day of Drake's Moon, 1052.

Prior to meeting Mayfia and after her death, Darcy considered many women as potential marriage partners. Poring over family genealogy, his fascination was with those who held significant magical bloodlines. Among his other prerequisites for a good wife was that she be faithful - to ascertain any child she bore was certainly his, and that she complied with his desire to build a strong magical bloodline by marrying their children off to appropriate partners. He also hoped to find someone he connected with who would be able to spend many years with him as he expected he would live a long life due to his elven blood.

Among those he considered...

  • Arianne West - her heritage descending from both the High Elven Kings of Brecilidia and the Stormlords made Arianne especially appealing to Darcy. But he discovered her personality was nothing like his, and soon heard of her dalliances with women all over Everglow. She was the reason he decided to set himself some parameters to find a wife.
  • Cecily Cogworth - The suspicion of magic-users was extremely prevalent in the Cogworth family and Darcy doubted he would even be considered an audience with her guardians.
  • Penelope Blackthorne - Despite being from similar magic-wary bloodline as Cecily Cogworth, Penelope's Manford mother had lost a substantial amount of wealth. After speaking with Penelope and her mother Briona, Darcy determined Penelope had her heart set on a marriage with Llewys Monmoth.
  • Carmellia Relvingold - A pureblood High Elf who Darcy invited as his plus-one to the wedding of Casim and Rivka. He struggled to make a connection with her, especially after Carmellia met Elmer Twicefreed, and his interest fizzled out quickly.
  • Talia Blackthorne - Unfortunately Titus Sabre wed Talia before Darcy could even arrange a meeting with the young lady. But after Titus' death, his interest was restored. However, the timing wasn't right and he soon learned that she already had eyes for someone else.
  • Metheryl Arcaena - After witnessing the power of Shatterlight Coven and their High Enchanter Metheryl Arcaena, Darcy abandoned his search of pure or only half-blooded lines. He attempted to approach Metheryl herself but she shut him down very quickly. Decades later, after he had been wed and widowed, he tried to woo her but was again promptly rejected.
  • Serenity Piers - After witnessing her at The Final Battle and discovering there was in fact no blood relation between himself and her, Serenity became an eligible partner. With the knowledge that she and Drake were no longer betrothed, he approached her about the possibility of a union. She rejected him and was the last woman he considered before he fell in love with his future wife Mayfia.
  • Nimbe Webb - Darcy wasn't certain how she slipped his attention, but he only truly noticed Nimbe Webb in the throes of The Pirate War when she became known as "The Ratel of Ardent Quay". After his wife's death, his thoughts returned to her, but he was unable to track her down until she appeared in Caybourne 5 years later with twins on her hips.
